Vintage framed Lithograph of Camellia fulgens plenissima, Ambrose Verschaffelt, mid 1800s artist for Nouvelle Iconographic Book. Has been professionally matted & framed. 12” x 15” frame with glass, probably from the 1960-70 era.
[VERSCHAFFELT (Ambroise)]. New iconography of camellias, containing illustrations and descriptions of the rarest, newest, and most beautiful varieties of this genus. Ghent, Ambroise Verschaffelt, 1852-1853. 2 octavo volumes, blue half-morocco, blue percaline boards framed with two blind-tooled fillets, spine decorated with compartments with a double gilt fillet, gilt edges (contemporary binding). First editions of these two years of publication, each illustrated with forty-eight lithographed plates by G. Severeyns after watercolors by Bernard-Léon, delicately colored and gummed. This sumptuous and rare periodical on camellias was published from 1848 to 1860 by the Ghent horticulturists Alexandre-Jacques and Ambroise Verschaffelt. Each year of publication consists of twelve installments of four plates with explanatory text. Beautiful copies with very vibrant coloring in attractive contemporary bindings.
